They looked more similar to each other in the bottle. Not dupes, I'm afraid.



Dior Bleu Poison. AKA Poison Blue. Very dark, looks nearly black in most lighting.


CND Plexi Pink. Sheer hot pink tint with blue/purple iridescence. Makes a great layering polish, especially over blue.


China Glaze Yell-O-Neil. A medium yellow with glass fleck shimmer. Beautiful color, painful application.


NARS Orgasm. Very sheer, needed five coats.



China Glaze Celtic Sun. Neon highlighter yellow jelly. This is a pretty bad picture of it- it's closer to the color in the bottle. It is the color of a highlighter in real life. Very, very, very bright.


OPI Think Merry, Pink Merry! You may want to view this beauty full size. Shimmering frosty pink metallic with silver microglitter. Ulta Exclusive, holiday 2008.


OPI Breathe Life- sunlight. It lights up with blue sparkles in the sunlight.

Reader Requests, Part 1!

Here are a couple of reader requests! Please ignore my broken nail in some of the pictures- I've been trying not to swatch until the broken nails grow out a little bit, but I got impatient!

In no particular order....

For lovely Karman, some comparisons. I've tried labeling them, but I'm not sure if it makes the picture too confusing. Should I keep doing comparisons with text, or ditch it?


Thumb to pinkie: Lippmann Bitches Brew, China Glaze Heart of Africa, China Glaze Metropolitan, China Glaze On Your Knees!, CND Dark Secret.


Thumb to pinkie: China Glaze Red Stallion, OPI Apple Of My Eye, OPI Never Lon-Done Shopping, OPI Red-y For Anything, Essie Valentine Red.

These two were a challenge! I thought there would be a lot of close matches, but after pulling pretty much every similar color out of my stash and lining them all up together, I only came out with a few close ones. Oddly enough, the nearest matches are all discontinued colors.... Maybe it's a sign? Then again, these are only dupes I have in my stash, I'm sure someone who has more of these types of colors would have more matches?

Thumb to pinkie: OPI Espresso Your Style, Borghese Espresso Brown F, China Glaze Unplugged, Orly Golden Maharaja, Lippmann Brown-Eyed Girl.

I could do these brown comparisons all day. I love browns, and I couldn't choose just five.... I should do another picture! Anyway, these are all similar to each other, but different enough to justify owning them all. The shimmer in these are all different textures- some are more sparkly, more frosty, sparse, glowy... I love them all.

A purple comparison for the fabulous Tink:


Thumb to pinkie: Misa Fatal Affair, Color Club Electronica, Misa Forbidden Lust, China Glaze Drama Queen, China Glaze Coconut Kiss.

The request was originally just a comparison of Fatal Affair and Electronica, but these other purples were sitting in front of me and looked similar, so I included them as well. They all look much closer in color in the bottle- they're much different on the nail! All gorgeous, but an indication that sometimes bottle color can be deceiving.

Essie Starry Starry Night.

I think Starry Starry Night is a perfect name for this color. It's spectacular!

I'm working on editing the rest of the request photos, so I should have them up soon.

CND Fall/Winter 2008: Neutrals of the Night

I'm working on lots of fun things right now, so I'm just going to do a quick post on this one.

CND's Fall Collection will save you money. It's only repromotes:

No new colors for this collection. They do advertise a custom blend used on the runways- Nordic Grey. A beautiful grey creme that's a blend of Voodoo and Creme Puff. A 'frankenpolish'!

If anyone is curious about the rest of the information and pictures contained in the press release, let me know and I'll post them.

Random Swatches: Creative Nail Design (CND)

Thank you all SO MUCH for the photography tips! I'm going to play around with the different suggestions and hopefully I'll be able to take great pictures indoors on dark days! You guys are the best. Seriously. Love you all.

Anyway, since I haven't been able to do new swatches this week, I thought I'd post a few past nails-of-the-day that I liked. As much as I love new stuff (and I really, really love new stuff) sometimes I just have to go back to my old favorites.

This time I'm going to focus on CND. While I do not like the formula of these at all (they never actually dry, no matter what I do!) the colors are truly spectacular.

Polish Addict recently posted the announcement that CND plans to discontinue almost all of their polishes and keep a core line. This is very sad. If you see a CND polish you like that's not on the list, grab it while you can!!


Okey Dokey Artichokey. Sort of an olive green weird pinkish duochrome. I love colors like this.


Cashmere. I'm not even sure how to describe this other than, "it's awesome".


Family Secret. Sort of a dirty taupe brown color with red shimmer.


Souvenir Junkie. Glowing hot fiery orange shimmer!


VIP Status. A really horrible picture of it, too. It's an incredibly shocking gold and holographic glitter polish that's positively blinding! It explodes with sparkle. I love it to death.



Black Platinum. I think the name covers it pretty well.


Cuppa Joe. I think this is tied with VIP Status and Disco Ball for my favorite CND polish of all time. This polish just makes me feel happy. *sigh*


Deep Velvet. I don't know how well this polish goes with my skintone, but I love the color of it. It really does look like deep velvet. Very interesting to look at.



Hotski To Tchochki. I'm not even entirely sure I spelled that right. This is not only super bright and sparkly, it wins the award of Hardest To Spell Nail Polish Name EVER.


These are only some of the unique and fascinating colors I have from CND, and it's so sad to hear that most of them will be gone soon. I guess I never really wear them very often because of the drying issue, but I sure do love to look at the bottles.

Turquoise Swatches, Part 1.
