Kat Von D Metal Orchestra Palette and Lightning Lipgloss
If you can recall, when the Kat Von D for Sephora makeup line first came out, I was extremely skeptical about it. Sephora house brand items have never been known for their quality, but the Kat Von D line is different. The shadows are silky smooth and pigmented, the glosses have the perfect light texture and the eyeliners are unique and easy to use.
What I also like about the line is that it fits my personal taste. I'm not really a frou-frou flowery pink-feather-boa kind of girl, if you haven't figured that out by now... ;-)
Anyway, two new additions to the line are the Metal Orchestra palette and the Lightning Lipgloss.
First Class, Techno, Thrasher, Dagger, Lucifer, Glock, Razor Gray, Slayer.

I'll admit, I don't wear blue or grey often, but I HAD to get this palette just for the names. Thrasher? Slayer? There's an eyeshadow called GLOCK for Pete's sake, of course I had to have it!
The shadows are really nice and dense, not at all flaky or chalky. The ones in this palette are a combination of shimmers and metallics and all are super soft and smooth. Very velvety. The pigmentation is great. The only one I'm not crazy about is Lucifer- it's smooth but not very rich. It looks like a deep black but it's hard to build the color. This color has also been included in every Kat palette so far. I think they should tweak this shade a little bit, but that's just me. And, once again, this palette includes two completely useless double-ended brushes (though they would make excellent lip brushes!).
One thing that surprised me is that there's a cream shadow in this palette- Slayer. It's a super smooth and light textured cream with a heavy metallic silver finish. I think this would make a great base for the shadows in this palette, but I haven't tried it yet. Cream shadows are usually a disaster, so I'll have to see how this one turns out.
As for the lipglosses, I had already purchased Bam, but then decided to get the set instead of buying the full sizes.

Saint is a sheer silvery white loaded with multicolored pastel shimmer. Bam is a sheer grape with red, blue and purple shimmer. Fierce Red is not really very fierce- sheer red with shimmer. Gunshine is a sheer charcoal that leans brown and is packed with multicolored shimmer- it's like the lipgloss version of OPI My Private Jet. Stormy is a slightly less sheer purple-burgundy shade with tons of multicolored shimmer.
These all have tons of microshimmer (not glitter) in them. It is extremely reminiscent of MAC Dazzleglass, my favorite gloss ever, but not sticky and with very little pigment.
The texture of the glosses is super light and smooth. It's not oily and it's not thick, I'm not sure what to compare it to, as I don't have any other glosses this texture. It's thin and smooth and extremely sheer.
The glosses have a nice yet unidentifiable scent. Sort of a vague fruity vanilla? They smell... purple. That's all I can think of. Purple.
I really like these products. I'm really glad that someone has a line that's a little more edgy, a little less trendy and definitely more fun than the rest. It's like the Kat Von D line is making up for Urban Decay's miserable failure at being edgy. Thank you, Kat, even though I know that you wear MAC.

Kat Von D for Sephora Autograph Liquid Eyeliner
I'll take a little break from babbling about nail polish to introduce you to my new favorite makeup item:
Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner.
I've recently become fond of liquid liner, and I've pretty much worn it every day for the past 6 months. During that time I've tried tons of different brands- Urban Decay, Sephora Brand, Wet N Wild, MAC, et cetera. Out of all of those, I like Kat's the best.
I'll admit, the first two I bought just for the name- Black Metal Love (KVLT!!!) and Love Metal (seriously, I do.) The other two I had to get because I loved the first ones so much- Turbo Lover and Romantico.
The brush on these is pretty much perfect- long enough to draw a straight line without making a mess, stiff enough not to splay but soft enough not to skip, and holds plenty of liquid so you don't have to dip so much.
The packaging is great- the bottles (jars? what do you call that part?) are the exact color of the liner inside- actually, I'm thinking they're transparent because it's such an exact match. The handles of the brushes are nice and long with a rubberized feel to them and beautiful silver artwork.
They all dry very quickly, which is awesome for me because I hate waiting for my liner to dry before I can curl my lashes. The texture is smooth and even, no chunks, not runny and not too thick. Texture is an important factor in achieving a straight and flawless line. Too runny and it bleeds, to thick and it skips. These are just right. And once they're dry, they don't budge, smudge or flake.
Most importantly, all the colors have character. See below.

I apologize for the poor quality of the swatches. I just couldn't keep my hand still for anything! I really need to cut back on the coffee.
Romantico is a deep antique looking gold that dries looking pretty reflective. It has just a hint of sparkle in it, and it's incredibly beautiful when it catches the light.
Turbo Lover is a metallic plum burgundy shade. It doesn't look red on your eyes. It's also metallic and reflective when dry. It really brings out the color of my eyes, and I'm sure it would look awesome with all eye colors.
Love Metal is everything I wanted Urban Decay's Revolver liquid liner to be. It's shiny, sparkly, reflective pure metallic silver goodness. A strange sounding but beautiful way to wear it is with a light gold eyeshadow on the lid. Gold and silver together doesn't sound like it would work, but it looks so interesting and pretty! You could also do it in reverse with a silver eyeshadow and Romantico liner.
Last, but definitely not least, Black Metal Love. A pure, super-dark jet-black matte liner with super-tiny silver microglitter. I think the microglitter really makes it. It doesn't look glittery at all- it looks like dark black matte eyeliner. When the light hits it you see the silver microglitter and it's just so fascinating to look at. I don't know if I can go back to plain black liquid liner.... I like the glitter!
If you're into cat eyes, retro glamour or just love liquid liner, you might want to give these a try!

Kat Von D Ludwig Palette Look.
Really quick, I thought I'd try out the other palette. It's nice. Very nice.
I used the right side of the Ludwig palette (Leather, Baroque, Downtown, Clay, Tequila).
And a flash one, cause I thought it looked cool and sparkly.
You know, taking good pictures of your makeup is 5000 times harder than taking pictures of your nails. I still haven't mastered this makeup photo thing yet.

Kat Von D Beethoven palette look.
So, looks like I have to take back everything I said about these palettes being crappy. They are really nice. Sure, they could be more pigmented, but they're nice and smooth and the colors all work together.
I did a Kat-inspired blue semi-smoky eye with liquid liner because it seemed appropriate.
Just an eyeball shot. I used the left side of the Beethoven palette (Speed Blue, Raxor Gray, Tequila).

Ok, so I was bitching about how crappy I thought these would be and blah blah blah, you know the drill. This time I decided to see if they were actually as bad as I had thought.
I haven't worn them yet, but they actually don't seem so bad. They could be a lot more pigmented, but the colors are much better than they looked in the pictures.
The outer packaging was especially nice- it felt almost like a luxury product. The beautiful outer box that opens to reveal artwork inside, the special gunmetal wrapping paper with the Kat Von D seal. They were really trying to make a good impression.

Beethoven pallete:
Top (indoor lighting): Galeano, Leather, Rad Purple, Sinner, Tequila, Raxor Gray, Speed Blue, Lucifer.
Bottom (outdoor, full sunlight) same as top, just reverse order.
Ludwig palette:
Outside, full sunlight. Leather, Baroque, Downtown, Clay, Tequila, Dimebag, Orbi, Lucifer.
I like how they included two double-ended brushes instead of sponge-tip applicators.
The downside is that the texture of the brushes is more like a lip brush and unlikely to pick up much pigment. They're tiny and way too smooth.
Overall, they're much nicer than I thought they would be. I'm going to use them and then give a final review.

Kat Von D for Sephora... or is that MAC?
Bwahaha, Kat Von D mentions MAC pigments in her video for Sephora's catalogue shoot.
She obviously doesn't wear that Sephora house brand crap she's promoting. Look how terrible the pigmentation is when she puts it on her hand!
I love how at the end she specifically says "pigment" "vanilla" and "pink opal"....
I remember a bunch of old Sephora photoshoot videos where you could blatantly see the MAC products sitting on a table, but then they claim they use Sephora brand [insert product here] for their look.
You're not fooling anyone!
